The Ente Parco Regionale del Partenio is stepping up action on mountain safety and environmental protection, with joint patrols planned alongside the Carabinieri Forestali and a meeting scheduled with the Prefecture of Avellino.

Park president Franco Iovino met the Carabinieri Forestali to define joint monitoring and protection activities in the Partenio mountains, according to concordant reports from Irpinia local press.

Reinforced controls are expected on Sunday, 25 October, during a "motostory" event organised by local associations on the Partenio. The sources do not specify the number of personnel involved, the areas covered, or the exact nature of the event.

On Wednesday morning, Iovino is due to be received at the Prefettura by the prefect of Avellino, Franca Fico. The aim of the meeting is to propose institutional dialogue and a round table on environmental protection.

The proposed table would bring together local institutions, the Comunità Montane, agricultural business associations, trade unions and producers.

Among the issues raised are dust and fumes produced during the hazelnut harvest and the effects of the climate crisis. No quantitative data on the environmental impact of the harvest was reported, and the sources do not record any outcome of the planned Prefecture meeting.

What is confirmed so far is the direction of travel: closer cooperation between the Park authority and the Carabinieri Forestali, closer attention to organised events in the mountains, and a request for a broader institutional table on the environmental pressures facing the Partenio area.
