The Municipality of Montefredane has established a new civic honor named after Berardino De Crescienzo, the Montefredane-born jurist. According to IrpiniaNews, the Giunta unanimously approved the initiative with deliberation no. 79 on 18 September 2026.
The honor recognizes professional merit, ethical rigor, culture, legality and public service. Its stated purpose is to promote legality, justice, independence, freedom of thought and dedication to the common good.
Eligible recipients may come from the judiciary, the legal profession, universities, research, literature, public institutions and public administration. A consultative commission will identify candidates and submit reasoned proposals to the Giunta, which will make the final conferrals.
The commission will be chaired by Antonio Guerriero, former Prosecutor of the Republic of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, and will include Antonio Polidoro and the serving mayor.
The award takes its name from Berardino De Crescienzo, born in Montefredane in 1879, who combined a judicial career with scientific and professional work and later researched the town's origins. Mayor Ciro Aquino presents the initiative as a way to connect Montefredane's history with contemporary examples of study, responsibility and service.
