A 47-year-old man from Monteforte Irpino is facing trial over allegations that he tried to kill his wife by covering her with ethyl alcohol and attempting to set her on fire, according to a report by IrpiniaNews.

The reported incident allegedly occurred on 7 June 2026. According to the report, the man allegedly threatened his wife with the words "Ora ti do proprio fuoco" — "Now I'll really set you on fire" — before dousing her with ethyl alcohol. The report says she was allegedly saved because the lighter he tried to use malfunctioned.

The defendant has denied attempting to ignite her, according to the same report.

The man is reported to face allegations of attempted murder, aggravated mistreatment and bodily harm. The alleged mistreatment is reported to date from 2021 through June 2026.

According to IrpiniaNews, the defence has requested an abbreviated trial, conditionally involving testimony from the alleged victim.

These are allegations that have not been established by a final judgment. The report does not provide the outcome of the hearing mentioned in its account, and the full evidentiary record is not available.
