Two cash machines in central Morcone were blown up minutes apart overnight, causing extensive damage to a bank ATM and the post office's postamat.
The explosions occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. in central Via Roma, according to NTR24. The targets were a BPM bancomat and the postamat at the local post office. The blasts damaged the surrounding structures and alarmed residents.
Carabinieri began investigating the attacks. Firefighters from the Benevento provincial command intervened to secure the affected areas and check the damaged structures.
The report describes the method as the so-called "banda della marmotta" technique, but the people responsible had not been identified. It was also not yet known whether any cash was taken or what amount might be missing.
The possible connection between the two explosions, beyond their close timing and location, remained under investigation, and there was no confirmed information yet on when the affected services would resume.
