Avellino will host "Oltre i confini – un mondo di possibilità", a public event dedicated to rights, inclusion and combating discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The event is scheduled for Monday 5 October 2026, beginning at 10:30, at the former Church of the Carmine and the Urban Center on Via Clausura 11.

According to local press reports, the morning programme centres on an institutional round table on rights and discrimination. Contributors announced for the discussion include representatives of the Region of Campania, ASL Avellino, AGEDO Napoli, Apple Pie Arcigay Avellino and the Gender Dysphoria Centre of ASL Salerno.

At 12:00, the focus will move to Avellino's Urban Center for the opening of the photographic exhibition "Cora's Courage".

A photographic story about identity and acceptance

The exhibition is attributed to photographer Gabo Caruso, curated by Anna Catalano and organised by Centro Antidiscriminazioni Malika in collaboration with the Fotografia Calabria Festival.

It presents 41 photographs addressing identity, childhood, self-expression and family and social acceptance.

The Avellino exhibition draws on Caruso's "Cora" project, an ongoing photographic project begun in 2018 documenting Cora's life and gender transition over time, through childhood, adolescence and adulthood.

For visitors, the combination of a morning discussion and a documentary photography exhibition offers two complementary ways into the day's theme: public dialogue and personal story told through images.

The context: what Centro Malika is

The event is linked to Centro Malikə, a project funded by UNAR under a programme supporting centres addressing discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The project is promoted by the Municipality of Avellino with ACLI di Avellino APS, Arcigay Salerno "Marcella di Folco", Innova ETS and Hyrpinia Cooperativa Sociale Onlus. It is described as an 18-month project running from 13 May 2025 to 13 November 2026.

Centro Malikə combines individual support, training, territorial networking, communication and awareness activities, with particular attention to people facing multiple vulnerabilities, including migrants and asylum seekers.

Seen in that context, the 5 October programme reflects the Centre's broader approach: bringing public institutions, health services and LGBTQIA+ organisations together in the same public conversation.
