The Municipality of Monteforte Irpino has called a public sit-in for Monday 19 October at 16:30 in the area in front of Palazzo Loffredo to seek justice for Duke and to condemn violence against animals.
The initiative was promoted by the municipal administration. According to the local reports, it involved Mayor Fabio Siricio and councillor Francesca De Santis, and was open to citizens, associations and institutions.
A young dog known to the community
Duke was a young dog known and cared for by people in Monteforte Irpino. Ottopagine described him as a one-year-old dog known in the community. Fanpage/Kodami described him as a free-roaming dog cared for locally.
The reports agree that Duke was killed by firearm shots. The exact date and circumstances of the killing are described only in relative terms in the material acquired, and the identity of the person responsible has not been established in the sources.
What the sit-in is for
The stated purpose of the gathering is to ask for justice for Duke and to publicly condemn violence and mistreatment of animals.
Francesco Emilio Borrelli was expected to attend the demonstration, according to the reports.
The municipality indicated a practical backup plan: in case of rain, the sit-in would move inside to the municipal council chamber.
Complaint filed
Fanpage/Kodami reports that ENPA filed a complaint concerning Duke's death.
The acquired sources do not establish whether arrests, charges or other legal measures had been issued. Attendance figures and the final outcome of the sit-in are also not available in the material.
