A 23-year-old man from Avellino has been arrested on suspicion of drug possession with intent to deal, after police reported finding cocaine, hashish and cash during checks and a home search.

According to IrpiniaNews, citing the Avellino State Police, the operation was carried out by the Avellino Flying Squad, with support from a canine unit from the Naples police headquarters, as part of services coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office. The young man was stopped in a peripheral neighborhood of the city.

During the check, officers reportedly found two heat-sealed packets of cocaine in his wallet, weighing 0.7 and 1.3 grams respectively, along with two small pieces of hashish.

A subsequent search of his home allegedly uncovered 37.7 grams of cocaine, two pieces of hashish weighing 44.7 and 23.6 grams, and 870 euros in banknotes of various denominations. Police seized the drugs and the cash.

The young man was arrested and placed under house arrest pending a validation hearing.

The charges are provisional, and responsibility will need to be established by a final judgment. The local report describes the operation as having taken place "yesterday" without giving an absolute date in the text available, and no separate police or prosecution statement was available to independently verify the details.
