A small, apparently lost dog wandering on the motorway near the Angri exit was rescued by a traffic-police officer after creating a serious danger for both the animal and passing motorists.

According to Il Mattino, the dog was at serious risk of being hit, while its presence on the carriageway also created a dangerous situation for drivers. A traffic-police patrol arrived on the scene, warned drivers and slowed traffic to prevent an accident.

Before approaching the frightened animal, an officer secured the carriageway using warning lights and the service vehicle. He then gained the dog's trust, picked it up and placed it safely inside the patrol car.

A photograph of the officer holding the rescued dog was widely shared online and was also reposted by Francesco Emilio Borrelli's page. The dog was later entrusted to veterinary personnel for health checks and a search for a microchip that could help identify a possible owner.
