An 80-year-old woman in Cava de' Tirreni handed over a bag containing cash and valuables worth more than €30,000 after being deceived by callers posing as her nephew and a police officer, Il Mattino reports. Police opened investigations after she filed a complaint.

According to the report, the suspects used the so-called "fake nephew" scheme. The woman was told that her nephew had been involved in a robbery at a local jewellery shop and needed urgent help.

One caller impersonated the nephew, while another posed as a police officer, lending apparent authority to the request. Convinced she was helping her relative, the woman collected cash and valuables from her home.

She was then persuaded to leave her residence and hand over the bag in the street, away from her home. Only afterward did she realise she had been deceived.

The reported loss exceeded €30,000. The identities, number and current legal status of the suspects were not reported, and no further investigative outcome was available in the source. Investigations were underway following the woman's complaint.
