A peaceful sit-in by truck drivers continued despite rain at the Castel San Giorgio motorway exit in the province of Salerno, according to Il Mattino.

Wives and female transport-company employees joined the drivers in the protest against higher living and fuel costs. One local company closed in solidarity and provided hot meals for the protesters.

Around ten foreign trucks from Poland, Bulgaria and Turkey were reported as supporting the protest.

Protesters said that filling a truck with approximately 700 litres of fuel costs more than €2,000, before motorway tolls.
