Luisa Cerrato, 59, from Siano, died after being struck by a vehicle on the A30 Caserta-Salerno motorway near the Sarno exit, according to Il Mattino. The Nocera Inferiore prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for vehicular manslaughter.
The incident occurred at around 21:30 on a Wednesday, the report states. Cerrato had exited her vehicle to inspect damage caused by an earlier collision when she was hit by a small car driven by a young woman. The impact was fatal.
The driver of the small car was placed under investigation as a procedural measure. Investigators are working to establish the precise dynamics of the collision, including whether a possible narrowing of the roadway or nearby roadworks played a role. That possible influence has not been established.
An autopsy was carried out, and Cerrato's funeral was held in Siano at the church of San Rocco.
