Italy's Guardia di Finanza seized about 500 kilograms of contraband cigarettes in Scafati, in the province of Salerno. Three Italian citizens were placed under the precautionary measure of obbligo di dimora, ordered by the investigating judge of the Court of Nocera Inferiore.
The operation was carried out by the Guardia di Finanza of Salerno and the Compagnia di Scafati, under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Nocera Inferiore.
According to the reports, investigators first found about 240 kilograms of cigarettes inside a garage or storage unit. Further quantities were then found stored in other premises in the same municipality, bringing the total seizure to about half a tonne.
The three suspects face allegations of smuggling foreign manufactured tobacco. Under the prosecution's hypothesis, they were involved in an organized activity of sourcing and selling the cigarettes. Investigators believe the goods were intended for retail distribution, mainly in the Naples area.
What is established and what remains preliminary
The facts reported so far concern the quantity seized, the places where it was stored, the precautionary measure applied, and the offices conducting the investigation and coordinating it.
