A shooting in the Case Nuove area of Naples has left a 30-year-old man in critical condition, in what local reporting presents as the latest episode of violence linked to rival criminal groups operating around Case Nuove and the Mercato area.
What happened
According to Il Mattino, the victim was Emanuele Pistone, described as 30 years old and already known to law enforcement. The report says he was shot four times at the intersection of via Luigi Serio and via Antonio Toscano.
The same report says Pistone was struck in both legs, a shoulder and a buttock. He was transported to the Pellegrini hospital and treated in intensive care, where he was reported to be in critical condition.
Il Mattino described Pistone as an emerging area boss and linked him in the past with the Del Re group. That description is a journalistic characterization, not an established judicial finding in the reporting acquired for this article.
Investigation underway
Il Mattino reports that police patrols, officers from the Vicaria-Mercato police station and the Mobile Squad are investigating the shooting.
Surveillance-camera footage from the area is among the evidence being examined, according to the same report.
The motive for the shooting and the identity of the attackers were not established in the reporting acquired. No arrests, charges or convictions specifically related to this shooting were confirmed.
A contested area with a history of violence
Independent reporting places this episode against a background of recurring armed violence and rivalry among criminal groups operating around Case Nuove and the Mercato area.
Fanpage has reported tensions among emerging groups in and around Case Nuove, including the group associated by investigators with Emmanuele Marigliano and the group linked to Nicola Rullo, both described as operating in the orbit of the Contini clan.
Separately, Cronache della Campania reported that five defendants received convictions in an abbreviated proceeding connected to a January 2024 shooting at Case Nuove in which two people were wounded. Those convictions were reported as not yet definitive.
The relationship between the Pistone shooting and those earlier incidents and proceedings remains unconfirmed.
