Alessandro Alfano, the brother of the 19-year-old suspected of striking Portici supporter Mario Spedaliere after a football match in Pozzuoli, has publicly apologized to the injured man and his family.

"I apologize to Mario and his family if my brother is responsible for his injury," Alessandro Alfano said, in the words reported by Il Mattino as: "Chiedo scusa a Mario e alla sua famiglia se mio fratello è il colpevole del suo ferimento." He added that if his brother Emanuele delivered the blow, he must face the consequences.

What happened after Puteolana-Portici

Mario Spedaliere, 34, a Portici supporter, was seriously injured at the end of the match between Puteolana and Portici played in Pozzuoli.

According to ANSA, the injury occurred during a fight between supporters. Spedaliere suffered a severe head injury, described in the sources as inflicted with a bat, bar, or blunt object. He underwent neurosurgery and was admitted to Santa Maria delle Grazie hospital in Pozzuoli, where he was reported to be in extremely serious condition under deep sedation.

Eight arrests and an alleged confession

Investigators have arrested eight people — five adults and three minors — on charges of aggravated brawl. The 19-year-old identified as the person who struck the blow also faces a charge of very serious injuries.

ANSA reports that the 19-year-old allegedly admitted to investigators that he struck Spedaliere and indicated where the wooden stick had been hidden. Carabinieri subsequently seized the object.

The weapon has been described inconsistently across the available sources as a baseball bat, spiked bat, metal bar, or wooden stick. That detail remains part of the ongoing investigation.

What is established — and what is not

Established from the verified sources:

  • Spedaliere was injured during a supporters' brawl after Puteolana-Portici in Pozzuoli and remains hospitalized in very serious condition as reported on 27 October 2026.
  • Eight suspects were arrested for aggravated brawl, with the most serious allegation directed at the 19-year-old.
  • The alleged weapon was recovered after the suspect reportedly told investigators where it was hidden.

Not yet established:

  • Individual criminal responsibility has not been finally determined by a court; the suspect's role remains a matter for judicial investigation.
  • No later clinical update beyond the 27 October 2026 bulletin is verified in these sources.
  • A claim attributed to the suspect that Spedaliere was holding a knife is reported only as the suspect's version and is not confirmed by the sources acquired.

The apology therefore marks a human response to an incident whose legal and medical outcome is still unresolved.
