Students from schools in Naples and its province were the protagonists of the closing event for “Guida ResponsabilMente,” a road safety education project built around short video spots, a song, and classroom work on responsible driving. The final day was held at the Palazzo della Provincia di Napoli, with institutions, experts, schools, health services, and family members of road crash victims in attendance.

Schools involved

Students from the ISIS Caruso in Naples, the Segre high school in Mugnano, and the Salvemini school in Sorrento represented the participating schools at the closing event. The project also involved schools in Naples, Quarto, Sant’Antimo, and Caivano.

The students produced short video spots and wrote a song to promote conscious driving. The campaign slogan is “La strada è di tutti, scegli la vita.”

Spots shown across public transport

The student-made spots were broadcast in sixteen rail public transport stations, including stations of the Circumvesuviana, the Cumana and Circumflegrea lines, the funiculars, and Line 1 of the metro.

A metropolitan project with three strands

The project was promoted by the Città Metropolitana di Napoli as part of the national Mobilità Sicura initiative of ANCI and UPI. It was organized around three strands: teacher training, awareness work aimed at young people aged 15 to 18, and evening and nighttime road checks in places where young people gather.

Discussion during the project addressed digital distraction, alcohol, drugs, seat belt use, speed, and respect for the Codice della strada.

The Municipality of Naples reported that, during nighttime checks carried out over the months of the project, 1,300 people were stopped and more than 300 violations of the Codice della strada were recorded.

What remains unclear from the available reporting is the project’s start date and overall duration, as well as any measurable effect of the campaign on driving behavior or crashes.
