Naples International Airport at Capodichino will close to all air traffic for the whole of November 2026 while its runway and associated infrastructure undergo major redevelopment.
The closure, reported by Il Mattino and confirmed by airport operator GESAC, is a planned, month-long suspension of flights to allow redevelopment and maintenance of the runway and taxiways. GESAC presents the works as a safety-led intervention, carried out in accordance with applicable aviation regulations and intended to support long-term safety, reliability and operational continuity.
The reported value of the project is €30 million.
What the closure means for flights
No flights will operate to or from Naples Capodichino during November 2026.
How individual flights are handled — whether they are relocated to another airport, rescheduled, or cancelled — is determined by each airline. Passengers with November bookings should expect changes and should verify the airport code and latest itinerary directly with their airline before departure.
The final list of relocated, cancelled or rescheduled flights is airline-specific and may change. The available evidence does not establish that every airline serving Naples will operate from Salerno during the closure.
Shuttle link to Salerno Airport
For travellers rebooked via Salerno, GESAC and Busitalia Campania have established a shuttle service between Naples Piazza Garibaldi and Salerno Costa d'Amalfi and Cilento Airport, according to Il Sole 24 Ore.
The reported shuttle schedule includes eight daily journeys in each direction. A one-way ticket costs €12, payable on board electronically.
Travellers using the shuttle should allow extra time for the road transfer between Naples and Salerno, and should confirm departure points and times before travel day, as schedules may be adjusted.
What to do if you are flying in November
Check your airline first. Your carrier decides whether your November flight moves to Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport or another airport, changes date or time, or is cancelled. Do not go to Capodichino on the assumption your flight still departs from Naples.
Check the airport code on your updated booking. Naples Capodichino and Salerno Costa d'Amalfi are different airports in different cities. Verify the three-letter code on your ticket and any airline notification carefully before you leave for the airport.
If you are rerouted through Salerno, plan the Naples–Salerno connection in advance. The reported Piazza Garibaldi shuttle provides a direct public link, with eight daily departures each way and electronic onboard payment, but seats, traffic, and onward timing still matter — especially for early-morning departures and late-night arrivals.
