Joint checks by the Carabinieri and the Naples Local Police in Scampia led to the discovery of an unauthorized recreational club set up inside the arcade of a public housing building.
The operation, carried out by Carabinieri from the Scampia station together with officers of the Polizia Locale di Napoli, focused on Lotto SC3. There, officers found that part of the porticoes of a public residential building had been occupied without authorization and converted into an enclosed club space.
Illegal power connection and seizure
Inside the club, officers identified an illegal connection to the electricity grid, with estimated losses of around 17,000 euros.
The premises were placed under seizure. The unauthorized building works connected to the structure were demolished, with the involvement of firefighters.
Arrests after a chase
According to the verified reports, the checks followed an attempted evasion of a police stop and a subsequent chase. Two people were stopped and arrested.
Reporting on the case identifies them as Salvatore De Rosa and Antonio Iorio. Keys found on Iorio reportedly led officers to the illegal club in Lotto SC3.
Part of wider action against unauthorized use of public space
The City of Naples describes joint action against unauthorized commercial and other uses of public space in Scampia as part of a broader effort to protect urban decorum and public areas. That municipal account covers a separate inspection that found missing authorizations, unauthorized occupation of public land and aggravated electricity theft in a commercial activity, and should not be confused with the Lotto SC3 club operation.
For residents, the case is a reminder of two practical points grounded in this operation: unauthorized occupation of common parts of public housing, such as porticoes, can lead to seizure and demolition of the added structures, and illegal connections to the power grid are treated as a separate offence with potentially significant financial liability.
The precise date of the operation and the details of any subsequent judicial measures following the arrests were not clarified in the sources consulted.
