A person was struck and killed by a train near the Frattamaggiore-Grumo Nevano station on the afternoon of Friday, 11 September 2026, causing major disruption to rail services north of Naples.
The incident occurred along the Formia–Napoli railway line. According to Il Mattino, rail traffic between Aversa and Napoli Centrale was suspended from approximately 18:10 while emergency teams and investigators worked at the scene.
Officers from the railway police, the Polfer, and firefighters attended. Authorities carried out on-site investigations and forensic checks. The circumstances of the incident remained under investigation, and the victim's identity had not been officially confirmed.
Il Mattino reported that the victim was a foreign-born man of about 40 years old. The same report said a voluntary act had not been ruled out.
To manage the disruption, replacement bus services were activated between the affected stations, and trains were progressively rescheduled during the evening. Passengers faced delays and service changes until circulation could be restored.
