A large fire broke out on Via Provinciale Montagna Spaccata in the Pianura district of Naples, close to the road and close to a fuel-distribution station.
According to Il Mattino, the flames spread near the roadway, prompting particular attention from emergency responders because of their proximity to the service station. Firefighters were called to contain the blaze and to protect the station and passing traffic.
The fire produced a tall column of black smoke visible from several areas of the Phlegraean plain and Naples' western outskirts.
What is not confirmed: the acquired report does not give a precise time, the origin of the fire, or whether there were injuries or significant damage. Concern about a possible impact on an ecological-island area was reported as a fear, not a confirmed fact, and reports of a dioxin smell came from passers-by without technical or environmental verification. It is also not confirmed that the flames reached the fuel station itself.
