The first of the new trains for Naples Metro Line 6 has arrived overnight at Piazzale Tecchio, in the Fuorigrotta district.

The convoy was parked in the works area, still covered with a blue sheet bearing the Hitachi name, awaiting installation. The new trains are intended to replace the rolling stock previously used on the line.

No confirmed date has been given for when this first convoy will be moved onto the track, complete testing, or enter passenger service. The model of the train, the total number of convoys already delivered, and technical details such as interior capacity have also not been specified in the sources available.

Where Line 6 runs

Line 6 connects western Naples with the city centre and comprises eight stations.

At Municipio station, passengers can interchange with Line 1 without leaving the station.

The planned capacity at full operation is 7,600 passengers per hour per direction.

What the arrival means for passengers

For now, the arrival is a delivery milestone rather than a service change. The train is on site but not yet in operation.

Once the replacement fleet enters service, it will operate on the existing eight-station route between the western part of the city and the centre, with the Municipio interchange to Line 1.

Travellers using Line 6 should continue to follow current service information until the new convoys complete installation and testing and a start date for passenger service is announced.
