Repairs have been completed on the sudden failure that hit a major conduit serving the Sarnese-Vesuvian water system, with normal distribution expected to return gradually across the network.

The damaged infrastructure was the DN 1300 Sarno-Boscotrecase conduit, a large pipeline that feeds part of the Sarnese-Vesuvian system and carries up to 1,000 litres per second. Because of its size and role in the network, the failure caused pressure drops and interruptions in several municipalities in the Vesuvian area and the Agro.

According to the update issued by GORI, the water utility managing the network, technical teams finished the repair work and then began regulating flows and rebuilding water reserves in reservoirs. That rebalancing phase is necessary before pressure stabilizes throughout the system.

Normal water distribution was expected to resume progressively over approximately 12 hours following completion of the repair. The estimate describes a gradual network recovery, not a simultaneous return of full service on every street.

During that transitional period, temporary low pressure or further short outages could continue. Areas at higher altitude and those at the ends of the distribution network were expected to be the last to recover fully.

Reported affected municipalities include Boscoreale, Ercolano, Ottaviano, Pompei, San Giuseppe Vesuviano, San Marzano sul Sarno, Scafati, Torre del Greco, Trecase, Torre Annunziata and Boscotrecase.

While the disruption continued, substitute water services were arranged for some municipalities, including tanker trucks and public water points. The repair itself was described as technically complex, reflecting the size of the DN 1300 conduit and the volume it normally transports.

GORI also warned that brief temporary turbidity of the water could occur when service resumed. In that case, users were advised to let the water run for several minutes.

The exact time at which normal pressure was fully restored in each municipality was not independently confirmed in the available sources, and no final quantified figure was provided for the total number of users affected.
