Carabinieri and health inspectors from the NAS checked five care facilities for minors in Caivano, all managed by the same social cooperative, and found serious food-hygiene irregularities in two of them.
The inspection covered two residential communities and three educational communities. The problems were concentrated in two facilities on Via Clanio.
According to the findings, investigators discovered an unauthorized food storage area, opened foods kept in poor conditions, products without traceability, and containers containing insects. Some of the spoiled products reportedly contained worms.
Around 500 kilograms of dry, fresh, frozen and pre-frozen food were blocked from being placed on the market because they lacked traceability or the required health documentation.
The president of the cooperative, a 37-year-old woman from Maddaloni, was reported for alleged food-hygiene violations and fined more than 4,000 euros. The unauthorized food deposit was placed under judicial seizure.
Further checks were delegated to the NAS by the Naples North prosecutor's office. The reported violations remain allegations under investigation, with no final judicial findings established.
