A 22-year-old man died yesterday morning on the Strada Statale 7 quater in Varcaturo, in the municipality of Giugliano, after being struck by a passing car.
The victim was Roberto Ancona, 22, originally from San Cipriano d'Aversa. According to the reported account, Ancona was traveling in a Volkswagen Golf with a 20-year-old from Casal di Principe.
The Golf ended up against the guardrail for reasons that have not yet been established. Both occupants then got out of the car and attempted to warn approaching drivers of the danger.
A second vehicle then struck the 22-year-old. The driver, a 35-year-old from Villaricca, stopped at the scene.
The crash occurred at around 6:30 a.m. near kilometer marker 42+500.
Carabinieri from the Giugliano Radiomobile section and the Varcaturo station responded to the scene.
Authorities have not yet clarified either the cause of the initial impact with the guardrail or the exact circumstances of the subsequent collision. Both remain under investigation.
