Extraordinary maintenance of the seabed has begun in the port of Ischia. The intervention, focused on sediment management, is intended to preserve operational water depths and improve navigation safety and port efficiency.

The works were commissioned by Regione Campania and assigned to Società Cooperativa Lavori Marittimi.

Schedule and equipment

The works are scheduled from 12 October until 10 November 2026.

Operations involve the motopontoon "Donnanna". The start of the works followed an ordinance signed by Ischia Coast Guard commander Antonio Magi.

Nighttime working to limit disruption

Operations will take place mainly at night, from approximately 23:30 until the early morning.

According to the reported sources, the nighttime schedule is meant to reduce disruption to ferries, hydrofoils and other port traffic using the port of Ischia.

Safety distance for passing vessels

Vessels transiting the work areas must keep at least 50 metres from the equipment involved.

The measures for the works also include provisions concerning marine-environment protection, coordination with the Coast Guard operations room and the handling of possible archaeological finds.

What is not yet documented

The retrieved sources do not state the volume of sediment to be moved or the final target depths. The complete text and number of the Coast Guard ordinance were not retrieved, and the sources describe the work areas generally without a detailed map or coordinates.

The sources also do not specify whether all planned work will finish on 10 November or whether weather, navigation or environmental constraints could extend the schedule.
