Naples marked the feast of San Gennaro with the announcement that the saint's blood had liquefied at 10:04, after the ampulla was opened in the Treasury Chapel.
According to Il Mattino, the announcement came during the ceremony attended by the faithful, and was followed by the homily of Cardinal Mimmo Battaglia.
Battaglia used the occasion to issue what was described as a double warning: a call for peace and a rejection of clan violence. He condemned war, violence affecting young people in Naples, and the criminal influence of the clans.
The cardinal said the Camorra has nothing religious about it and called for liberation both from camorristi and from a broader camorristic mentality.
He also appealed to institutions and to the city as a whole to place children and vulnerable people at the center of concrete decisions, linking devotion to San Gennaro with responsibility toward the most exposed members of the community.
