A 74-year-old man from Caivano who was struggling to walk and orient himself was found near the roundabout between Via Diaz and Via Atellana and safely reunited with his family, according to Il Mattino.
The alarm was raised by motorists who spotted the man moving with difficulty among cars in what is described as a heavily trafficked area. Drivers contacted the local police operations centre, prompting officers to intervene.
When the local police arrived, the man was already being assisted by 118 emergency personnel. He was reported to be confused but in good physical condition.
Officers used the brief information the man was able to provide and coordinated with the operations centre to trace one of his nieces. She recognised him and took him home.
The local police commander is identified as Espedito Giglio.
