Afragola closed its schools for one day, Friday, October 9, after heavy rain hit the area north of Naples and the orange weather alert was extended until 3 p.m. the following day.

The order was announced by Mayor Gennaro Giustino. It applies, according to the reporting, "for the single day of tomorrow" only.

The stated reason for the closure is precautionary: to allow checks on school buildings for safety problems and possible storm damage before students return.

Student safety was given as the priority for the decision. The mayor said updates would follow on the outcome of the checks.

The same report described flooded roads elsewhere in the Naples province and problems reported at the Liceo Brunelleschi.

What remains unverified is the calendar year of the order, since the acquired text dates it only as "Friday, October 9," and the full municipal order and the official Civil Protection bulletin were not available in the validated research. It is also not confirmed whether any structural damage was found or whether school-related accessory services were affected.
