Mondragone's long-running plan for a new wastewater treatment system has taken a concrete step forward. According to Il Mattino, the definitive award for the executive design and construction of the new depuration plant has now been issued.
The reported contractors are Consorzio Stabile Energos and SIA, Società Italiana Acque, acting as a temporary grouping. The reported net awarded amount is 21.4 million euros, with 588 consecutive natural days allowed for execution.
The award advances the project toward executive design and construction, following institutional approval of the definitive project earlier in 2026.
What has been decided
The definitive award covers both the executive design and the construction of Mondragone's new depuration plant.
The Municipality of Mondragone lists a measure dated 25 February 2026 approving the definitive project for the new depuration system serving the municipality. The Commissario Unico per la Depurazione states that the project was approved as publicly useful, with an overall value of 37,368,687.80 euros.
The exact date on which construction will begin is not established in the documents acquired.
What the project includes
The plant is planned for approximately 44,000 inhabitants and is intended to accommodate seasonal population variations.
The new plant is described as being located on the left hydraulic bank of the Torrente Savone.
The wider intervention goes beyond the treatment plant itself. According to the Commissario Unico, it includes a new pumping station, sewer-system works, a submarine pipeline, decommissioning of the existing plant and redevelopment of the coastal area.
Understanding the different cost figures
Public documents give different financial reference points, and they refer to different stages of the procedure.
The overall definitive project is valued at approximately 37.37 million euros, while the EU procurement record lists an estimated value of 26,150,920.71 euros excluding VAT for the open integrated contract for executive design and construction, published on 2 April 2026. That EU record stated that the final contract value was not available.
The 21.4 million euro figure is therefore the net awarded amount reported by Il Mattino, not a revised total project cost. The final financing split and the timing of actual payments to the awarded contractor still require confirmation from the contracting authority.
What remains to be clarified
Several practical points are not yet established in the acquired documents. The EU procurement record still showed the final contract value as unavailable, so the award amount reported by Il Mattino is not independently confirmed by that record.
It is also not established whether the reported 588-day execution period includes all archaeological, permitting and commissioning activities.
