Caserta has submitted nine public-works proposals with a combined value of €18.539 million for consideration under PRIUS, Campania's sustainable urban regeneration programme financed through the European Regional Development Fund 2021–2027.
The candidacy was advanced through municipal deliberation 71. Eight interventions, worth €14.839 million, were proposed for ordinary funding, while a ninth project worth €3.7 million was submitted for performance-related funding under the same programme.
The proposal had passed an initial regional consistency review at the time of reporting. Final funding and any start of construction still required further steps, including examination by a regional steering committee and the signing of a programme agreement.
What the nine projects cover
The proposals span public buildings, childcare, sport, historic heritage and green areas.
Public-building and community projects include energy efficiency upgrades at Palazzo Castropignano, a new childcare centre on via Patturelli, an asilo nido on via Martiri di Bellona, and expansion of the Palavignola sports facility.
Heritage and landscape projects include maintenance and reuse of the Casertavecchia pinewood, restoration of the Real Belvedere gardens at San Leucio, improvements to viale degli Antichi Platani and piazza della Seta, and work on the Casertavecchia–Castel Morrone–Parco della Reggia panoramic road.
Four projects carried over after PNRR exclusion
Four of the projects now in the PRIUS package were previously associated with funding under Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan, or PNRR.
Those four — the via Patturelli childcare centre, the via Martiri di Bellona nursery, Palavignola and the Casertavecchia pinewood — were reportedly excluded from the earlier PNRR track because of programming delays and requested design revisions.
The municipality has therefore re-proposed them through PRIUS, alongside five other interventions.
What PRIUS is
PRIUS is Campania's integrated sustainable urban regeneration programme, funded under the regional ERDF 2021–2027 framework.
According to the Campania Region, the programme totals €360 million and covers 23 cities, with Caserta among the municipalities receiving substantial allocations.
What happens next
Approval is not yet final. The sources do not establish that the €18.539 million has been definitively awarded or that any of the works has entered construction.
The exact final project list, approved amounts and implementation timetable may change during the regional steering-committee and programme-agreement stages.
For readers, the practical points to watch are:
- Whether the steering committee confirms all eight ordinary-funding projects, and at what amounts.
- Whether the ninth, €3.7 million project submitted for performance-related funding is admitted under that separate PRIUS funding line.
- Whether revised designs for the four former PNRR projects are accepted without further delay.
Until those steps are completed, the nine-project, €18.539 million package remains a proposal under regional examination, not an awarded construction programme.
