Mondragone has stopped fireworks displays inside the Salvatore Conte municipal stadium during home matches of Mondragone City, which plays in the Promozione league.
An authorization for a fireworks display had initially been granted. It was then revoked by the municipal police commander upon administrative review, following an urgent communication from the Caserta Police Headquarters.
Mayor Francesco Lavanga presented the decision as an institutional safety measure rather than a political or ideological prohibition. According to the municipality, cooperation with public-security authorities and the protection of public order took priority.
The Caserta Police Headquarters invoked Law 401/1989, described as prohibiting pyrotechnic material during or near sporting events in order to protect spectators.
The municipality also indicated that failure to comply could have led to intervention by the Prefect through substitute powers.
