Benevento's municipal police have set out a plan to improve pedestrian safety on corso Garibaldi after a child was injured in the pedestrian area, according to a report by local broadcaster NTR24.

The reported plan has five parts: updating circulation rules, carrying out technical checks on e-bikes, maintaining a continuous patrol presence, inspecting the supply chain for modified e-bikes, and reviewing alternative routes.

Updated rules for the pedestrian area

The plan calls for revising the 2016 and 2020 ordinances governing bicycle circulation on corso Garibaldi. The aim is to clarify when riders must dismount and walk their bicycles.

No revised ordinance text or implementation timetable was included in the material reviewed for this article.

Technical checks on modified e-bikes

Technical checks, to be conducted with the Motorizzazione civile, are intended to identify altered control units, unlocking devices, and systems that provide motor assistance beyond permitted limits or without pedalling.

NTR24 also reports that the plan covers the import, modification, and sale of e-bikes, with possible involvement from the Guardia di Finanza, Polizia di Stato, and Carabinieri.

The report does not specify how many checks are planned, how long they will continue, or the criteria for sanctions, seizure, or confiscation.

Patrols and alternative routes

Two municipal police officers are expected to patrol the section between Santa Sofia and via Goduti on a rotating basis.

Signage and alternative routes between the via Goduti–via Annunziata area and corso Garibaldi are to be assessed. The Municipality of Benevento describes its police service as responsible for territorial supervision, road policing, accident investigations, administrative and commercial policing, and public-safety support.

The reported injury and the proposed enforcement measures have not been independently confirmed by a second source in the research available for this article.
