Workers building the high-speed rail section between Sant'Agata de' Goti and Telese, in the province of Benevento, have entered a state of agitation over unpaid wages, with unions asking the Prefect of Benevento to intervene.
The dispute was proclaimed on 16 September, according to local broadcaster NTR24. The unions involved are Feneal Uil, Filca Cisl IrpiniaSannio and Fillea Cgil.
Around 200 people are reportedly affected, including workers in the wider supply chain connected to the site.
The unions attribute the delays to unpaid invoices involving Consorzio Frasso Scarl and Bustraser Italia Srl. According to the unions, the outstanding payments include August wages, the approaching September wages, payments to the construction workers' fund and other related amounts.
The unions have requested a meeting at the Prefecture, with RFI, contractors and subcontractors included in the talks. They are seeking certainty over the payments owed, resolution of the disputes between the companies involved, and guarantees for future wages.
At the time of the report, the parties were still awaiting a summons from the Prefecture.
No response from Consorzio Frasso Scarl, Bustraser Italia Srl, RFI or the other companies involved was reported, and the exact number of directly affected workers and the total amount owed were not specified.
