The director general of AORN San Pio in Benevento, Maria Morgante, has responded to requests for clarification from Benevento mayor Clemente Mastella about events at the hospital's emergency department during the night between 31 October and 1 November.

According to the hospital's account, reported by NTR24, clinical intake of patients, continuous monitoring of vital signs and triage continued for everyone arriving at the emergency department.

The hospital said the department faced an exceptionally high number of patients concentrated in a short period, including cases of high and medium severity. Ambulance stretchers were temporarily used so diagnostic tests and treatment could continue.

That concentration of arrivals created temporary difficulties in patient turnover and affected how long ambulances remained at the emergency department.

The hospital also said it had already prepared measures intended to manage overcrowding, increase capacity and reduce waiting times for patients and ambulances. The report does not give exact arrival numbers, individual clinical details or the length of the delays, nor does it detail the specific measures prepared.
