Torre del Greco is moving ahead with plans for a new football stadium inside the Cittadella dello Sport in viale Europa, a project that Turris general director Flammia has welcomed as "Un volano per tutta Torre del Greco" — a driver for the whole city.
According to reporting by Metropolis Web, the city council has approved a budget variation of about 18 million euros for the new facility, with a planned capacity of more than 6,300 spectators.
Where the new stadium would rise
The planned ground would be built inside the Cittadella dello Sport in viale Europa, alongside the existing sports hall and the municipal swimming pool.
That location matters for supporters and residents: rather than a stand-alone ground outside the urban fabric, the proposal places the stadium within an area already used for sport in Torre del Greco.
What Flammia said
Flammia said the new stadium could increase interest around Turris and sport in the city.
On size, Flammia considers a stadium of between 6,000 and 7,000 seats adequate to support Turris's aim of returning to professional football. The 2026 project description reports a capacity of more than 6,300 spectators.
Flammia also said the Amerigo Liguori stadium should not be abandoned, but should keep a sporting function.
From the 2025 proposal to the 2026 budget move
The current plan follows an earlier proposal reported in 2025. That proposal described a modular structure for up to 7,000 spectators in the viale Europa area, with a regulation-size synthetic-grass pitch and individual seats.
The 2025 proposal also included the possibility of a 120-room hotel and involved a funding request of 10 million euros for the first lot.
The reporting from 2026 refers to a budget variation of about 18 million euros. From the documents available, it is not verifiable whether that figure represents the definitive total cost, a new allocation, or an update to the 10 million euros mentioned in 2025.
Part of a wider urban investment context
The stadium project sits within a broader context of investment and urban regeneration in Torre del Greco, separately documented by the Campania Region.
The Region reports a Programme Agreement with the Municipality of Torre del Greco and total investments of more than 16 million euros for urban regeneration works. The regional communication acquired for this article does not provide additional technical detail on the new stadium itself.
What is still not decided
Several key points remain open:
- There is no definitive executive project, construction timetable, complete picture of funding sources, or confirmed opening date available in the documents acquired.
- It has not yet been defined whether Turris will have a role in managing the new facility.
- There is no documented final decision on the future use of the Liguori, beyond Flammia's position that it should retain a sporting function.
For Turris supporters, the practical takeaway is this: the council vote and the stated capacity give the clearest indication so far of the scale the city has in mind, but the timeline, management, and final cost structure still need to be confirmed.
