A 66-year-old woman from Castellammare di Stabia died after being struck while crossing on a pedestrian crossing in Via Plinio, in Pompeii.

According to reporting by Metropolis Web, the crash happened during the night between 14 and 15 September 2026. The woman was crossing the road on the marked crosswalk with her husband when a car hit her.

The driver did not stop after the impact and fled the scene. The victim was assisted by 118 emergency responders and taken to hospital, where she later died from injuries sustained in the collision.

The judicial police of the Pompeii police station are investigating. Investigators identified a car with hood and windshield damage considered compatible with the collision; surveillance footage contributed to the investigation.

The acquired reporting does not publish the victim's name, and the final judicial status of the suspected driver remains to be confirmed by the judicial authorities.
