Police in Ariano Irpino intervened during the night of 26 October 2026 after a burglary at a local tobacconist and recovered the stolen goods.
According to IrpiniaNews and the Questura di Avellino, private security personnel reported two hooded people leaving the scene in a dark-coloured car at approximately 02:30. Officers from the Ariano Irpino station intercepted the vehicle used in the escape.
Inside the car, police found 159 packets of cigarettes taken in the burglary. The cigarettes were returned to the shop owner.
Officers also found caps, neck warmers and gloves apparently used as disguises. The vehicle was seized for further investigative checks.
The identity of those responsible has not been reported, and the sources do not report arrests, formal charges or the outcome of the investigation.
