A 44-year-old man from Brusciano has accepted a two-year suspended prison sentence after Carabinieri found drugs concealed in the roof lining of his car.
The arrest was carried out by the Carabinieri of the Baiano operational and radio mobile unit. According to IrpiniaNews, officers discovered around thirty doses of crack and marijuana hidden inside the vehicle's roof upholstery.
The defendant appeared before the single-judge court of Avellino in expedited proceedings on a charge of alleged drug dealing. The court accepted a plea agreement for two years' imprisonment, with the sentence suspended.
The report states that approximately 275 euros seized from the man at the time of the arrest will be returned to him.
The defense obtained recognition of the lesser-offense provision for drug dealing of minor seriousness, under Article 73, paragraph 5, of Italy's drug law. The article also reports that the defendant had no prior convictions.
Investigators are reported to be examining a possible further lead concerning a suspected delivery route for drugs between Brusciano or Marigliano and the Baianese area. That suspected route is described as an open investigative line, not as an established finding.
