The State Police and the Avellino police headquarters have been affected by a double bereavement.
Antonio Villani, a member of the Digos of Avellino, died while taking part in an escort service for Avellino supporters travelling to Cesena. A vehicle in the protection and escort detail was involved in a violent crash on the E45 near Borello, ahead of the Cesena-Avellino match. The exact circumstances of the crash were still being established.
Salvatore Luigi Ciriello died suddenly in Grottaminarda. The reporting acquired did not provide further details about the circumstances.
Livio Petitto said he was affected by the two deaths first as a man who wears the State Police uniform. He expressed his closeness to the families and to colleagues, and linked the tragedies to the need to guarantee greater protection, safety and resources for law enforcement officers.
