Avellino's Teatro Carlo Gesualdo is at the center of a local political dispute over its condition and management.

Mario Spiniello, president of the city council's Patrimony Commission, has requested the immediate resignation of Culture Councillor Luca Cipriano. Spiniello linked the demand to alleged dirt and inadequate maintenance at the theatre, as well as the absence of a published theatre programme.

The disagreement followed a reported inspection of the Teatro Carlo Gesualdo by councillors Luca Cipriano and Enza Ambrosone, after which cleaning and restoration work reportedly began.

Agostino De Rosa, vice-president of the commission and a majority councillor, rejected the call, describing the resignation request as "assurda." De Rosa argued that responsibility for the theatre's condition extends beyond the current administration and reflects longer-term cultural and political failures.

The report also notes that the theatre's upper floors, used as offices, remain closed because of a lack of funds.

What remains unclear is how far the reported maintenance problems extend, whether any resignation was submitted or accepted, and when a future theatre programme will be announced. No official response from Cipriano to the resignation demand was reported.
