A court in Avellino has sentenced 21-year-old Luigi Valente of Mercogliano to one year and six months in prison over an assault in Via De Conciliis on the night of 20 May 2024.

The sentence was suspended, with no entry in the criminal record. The case concerned aggravated injuries to two young men from the province of Naples.

Three other adult defendants — Modestino Valente, Gesualdo Manuel and Enrico Arcidiacono — were acquitted after the court found they did not commit the act. The prosecution had sought convictions for all four adult defendants.

The court also ordered Luigi Valente to pay a provisional sum and legal costs to one of the injured parties.

The court's written reasons were reported as due within 15 days of the judgment. It is not yet known whether an appeal will be filed, nor the final amount of the provisional payment. Proceedings involving a minor were reported to be continuing separately.
