A fire broke out on the roof of the building housing the La Quiete care home in Pellezzano, in the province of Salerno. Firefighters from the Mercato San Severino station intervened around midday to bring the flames under control.
The operation was supported by an aerial ladder and a water tanker. As a precaution, patients and people in the areas closest to the fire were evacuated and moved to safety.
Firefighters completed the extinguishing operations and secured the area. No injuries were reported.
Technical investigations into the origin of the fire were ongoing. The extent of damage to the roof and the wider structure has not been specified.
