Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport is serving as a test of its ability to handle increased passenger flows while Naples Capodichino is temporarily closed for scheduled runway works.

The airport, officially Salerno Costa d'Amalfi and Cilento Airport and managed by GE.S.A.C., is operating with two passenger facilities during November 2026: the commercial aviation terminal and the new general aviation terminal. Both terminals are scheduled to operate from 1 to 30 November 2026.

Scheduled national and international services at Salerno began on 11 July 2024, according to the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, which describes the airport as a strategic transport node for Campania and southern Italy.

Fifteen destinations in the November schedule

The November schedule includes six domestic destinations and nine international destinations, for a total of 15 destinations.

Domestic routes listed by the airport are Bergamo, Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, Genoa, Turin and Trieste.

International routes listed by the airport are Amsterdam, Barcelona, Casablanca, Dubai, Düsseldorf, Madrid, Paris, Sharm el-Sheikh and Stuttgart.

Route availability can change, so passengers should confirm schedules and terminals directly with the airport or their airline before travelling.

Two terminals, one shuttle

The two terminals are approximately 1,300 metres apart. They are connected by a free shuttle operating from 05:00 to 23:00 at roughly 20-minute intervals, coordinated with flights.

The airport publishes domestic and international routes by terminal. Travellers changing between a domestic and an international flight, meeting arriving passengers, or checking departure information should therefore confirm which terminal their flight uses before setting off for the airport.

Allow extra time for the transfer between terminals, especially for early-morning or late-evening flights at the edges of the published 05:00 to 23:00 shuttle window.

An hourly limit under 24-hour control

The reported operational limit for the control tower is a maximum of two flights per hour, with the tower operating 24 hours a day during the test period.

That ceiling matters for travellers: even with two terminals active, departures and arrivals remain paced by the hourly limit. It is worth checking flight status on the day, keeping boarding passes and identification ready, and following airport announcements if flows are concentrated at peak times.

What the test does not yet answer

The sources do not establish whether the November 2026 operating pattern will continue after Naples airport reopens.

The long-term passenger-capacity ceiling and the airport's actual monthly passenger throughput are also not provided. The headline reference to "14 operators" is not fully clarified in the underlying report, which separately refers to additional staff supporting operations.

For now, Salerno offers a time-limited look at how a second Campania airport handles diverted demand: two terminals, 15 listed destinations, a terminal shuttle, and round-the-clock air traffic control capped at two movements an hour.
