An elderly woman was rescued from a studio apartment on Via Barbazzano in Pagani after being found living amid a large accumulation of household waste.

The woman, identified as Maria, was sharing the small apartment with four dogs in conditions described as precarious. A neighbour raised the alarm after noticing that she was unwell and called 118.

An ambulance transported Maria to Umberto I Hospital in Nocera, where her condition initially appeared serious.

Following the rescue, health officials from ASL Salerno inspected the apartment and documented poor hygienic-sanitary conditions. Veterinary services took the four dogs into safety.

Maria's brother, who lives in Cremona, travelled to Pagani and joined residents in partially clearing the apartment. Residents were still calling for the removal of waste accumulated in the courtyard and for an immediate clean-up intervention.
