Thieves broke into the Oro Cash jewelry shop on Corso Mazzini in Cava de' Tirreni at around 4:50 a.m., smashing display cases and taking jewelry and cash.
According to Il Mattino Salerno, the burglars smashed two exterior windows and then the glass of interior display cases holding necklaces, rings, bracelets and other jewelry pieces. They reportedly disabled the alarm system and completed the theft in only a few minutes.
Most of the jewelry on display was taken, along with cash from the register. The total value of the stolen goods was not specified.
Police from the local commissariat in Cava de' Tirreni began investigating the break-in, including reviewing footage from surveillance cameras in the area.
Nearby residents reported seeing a large vehicle with a black panoramic roof and a license plate beginning with "HB," a detail investigators are examining.
The report places the robbery within a recent series of break-ins targeting shops in the same area. Investigators presume the same group may be responsible, though that connection has not been confirmed.
No arrests and no recovery of the stolen jewelry or cash were reported. The identities and number of the offenders had not been established.
