Two German shepherds were found injured and abandoned in a muddy enclosure behind the cemetery in Nocera Inferiore, in the province of Salerno.

The rescue began after a citizen alerted the Associazione Zoofila Nocerina. The association then contacted the municipal police and the veterinary service of the local health authority, the ASL.

According to Il Mattino, authorities obtained judicial authorization and seized both dogs immediately. The dogs had been found trapped in the pen, covered in mud.

The owner was identified through the dogs' microchip records and was reported while remaining free. The exact offence alleged and the current status of the proceedings were not specified in the available reporting.

One of the dogs, named "Mia", was in critical condition, with extensive wounds and parasite-infested sores, and received intensive treatment at the kennel. No later medical update on either dog was available in the research reviewed for this brief.
