A 55-year-old worker died at a worksite in Prata Principato Ultra after a skylight on the roof of a warehouse gave way beneath him.
The victim was Pietro Pellegrino, a resident of Sassano in the province of Salerno. According to Il Mattino, he was carrying out work on the roof with colleagues when the skylight collapsed.
Pellegrino fell several metres and died at the scene. The precise height of the fall was not reported.
The Carabinieri and the Labour Inspectorate began investigations. The cause of the skylight failure, and any possible responsibility, remain under investigation.
His body was taken to the mortuary of Moscati hospital, where it was held pending instructions from the Public Prosecutor's Office of Avellino.
