Naples marked the start of the new school year with the inauguration of the Rocco Jemma nursery in Via Guglielmo Appulo, in the Materdei district. Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and Councillor for Education and Families Maura Striano attended the event.
The building, long unused because of structural problems and water infiltration, was renovated with PNRR funds. The work was carried out under the supervision of the Soprintendenza to preserve the architectural value of the historic facility.
The renovated nursery will provide 75 places in total, divided between nursery places and spring sections. The source does not specify how many places are assigned to each category.
Speaking at the inauguration, Manfredi said the PNRR plan had covered 27 preschools and made it possible to recover more than 1,000 nursery places over three years. Striano said the administration's strategic goal is to double the number of available nursery places compared with 2018.
The city also announced that the reopening plan will continue, with a new nursery at Calata Capodichino expected to open in the following days.
