Local police in Afragola have seized a butcher shop inside the "Le Porte di Napoli" shopping centre after inspectors found serious hygiene and sanitation failures, including no working water supply and missing environmental permits.

The shop, which sold and processed meat, was inspected by the Afragola Polizia Locale. According to Il Mattino and two concordant local reports, officers ordered the seizure of the business and reported the owner to the judicial authorities. Il Mattino reports the case was referred to the public prosecutor's office of Napoli Nord.

What inspectors found

Officers reported dirty conditions under the refrigerated counters and rusted sections inside the cold-storage rooms, with the premises judged inadequate for food handling.

During the inspection, officers also reported food without traceability documentation, leftover processing waste, and meat being handled with bare hands and without personal protective equipment.

No drinking water, no wastewater permits

The shop had no functioning water supply, inspectors said. Instead, staff were using buckets containing dirty water in connection with meat handling.

Document checks also found no environmental authorisation for discharging wastewater into the sewer system, according to Il Mattino and La Rampa.

What is not yet known

The reports do not give the exact date of the inspection, beyond the publication dates of the articles. They do not specify the quantity, type or value of any food seized, and they do not include a response from the owner or the business.

No information is available in the acquired sources about further judicial steps following the owner's referral.
