A bar in Forio, on the island of Ischia, has been ordered to cease all commercial activity after inspections found serious hygiene deficiencies in its food preparation areas.
The case began with checks by the Carabinieri's NAS health-protection unit on May 29 and June 27. Inspectors found problems in the premises used for preparing food, including inadequate cleaning and sanitization of equipment, no changing room for staff, a lack of hot water, and irregularities involving the toilets.
Following those inspections, the pastry and rosticceria laboratory attached to the bar was suspended. According to the findings, the owner allegedly continued to use the laboratory despite the suspension order.
The owner has been reported to the judicial authority.
The Municipality of Forio then ordered the immediate closure of the entire business. The order will remain in effect until hygienic-sanitary conditions and the other required standards are restored.
