Salvatore Calignano, a 61-year-old construction worker, died in hospital after being found gravely injured on an isolated road in Caivano. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Napoli Nord has placed three people under investigation for manslaughter in cooperation in connection with his death.

According to the validated reports, the three suspects are Calignano's employer and the two owners of a warehouse where he had reportedly been working.

Found in Via Fossa del Lupo

Calignano was found unconscious with multiple trauma injuries in Via Fossa del Lupo, in Caivano. He was first taken for emergency care in Giugliano and later transferred to the Ospedale del Mare in Naples, where he died the following day.

The Carabinieri are reconstructing the events leading to the discovery. Before losing consciousness, Calignano reportedly said he had fallen from a ladder while working on the roof of a warehouse.

Investigators are examining whether the injuries came from a workplace fall and how Calignano came to be found in the street. That connection has not been definitively established.

The investigation

The Napoli Nord prosecutor's office has opened a case for omicidio colposo in cooperazione, or manslaughter in cooperation. Being placed under investigation at this stage is a procedural step that allows forensic and technical checks to proceed; it is not a finding of guilt.

An autopsy has been ordered. Investigators have also seized Calignano's mobile phone as part of the inquiry.

Employment position under review

Another line of inquiry concerns Calignano's employment status. Reports indicate that he had been hired the day before he was injured.

Investigators are checking the contract's signatures and the timing of its electronic registration. The authenticity and timing of the hiring remain under verification.

What remains unclear

Several central points have not yet been clarified in the acquired reporting:

  • The exact place and manner of the reported fall from the ladder.
  • Whether and how Calignano was moved from the reported work site to the road where he was found.
  • The cause and dynamics of the injuries, pending the outcome of the autopsy.
  • The identities of the three people under investigation, which were not disclosed in the reporting reviewed.
  • The final assessment of the employment contract.

The investigative hypotheses and statements attributed to family members reported in the press do not amount to final judicial findings.
